We need to stop talking about Trump's prosecution as if he were a former head of state. He was illegally installed by Putin and at no point was he ever legitimately US President. The whole thing was a coup since 2016. Prosecuting Trump is more akin to prosecuting Jefferson Davis.
Being a "former head of state" gets you no more in court than "campaigning for President" does, as judges are increasingly pointing out.

Putin could not make that happen.
