I can't help but worry that those who have been the hero in their own story (came from poverty, survived abuse, worked hard for a measure of success) are facing a world where they could lose everything to the whims of a sociopath. Why is cruelty normalized? Not simply in the US. This species has fucking issues.

Cruelty is normalized due to the decline of ethics/morality in pursuit of selfish gain (ex: greed for money, material objects, and power).
