So true about the records. Our Quaker meeting has a burying ground. Quakers weren’t big on headstones, but they are ALL about keeping records. But the records we have are pretty scanty for many burials. They probably seemed sufficient at the time, but the context for who those families were is hard to reconstruct.

Plus it wasn’t unusual for travelers to die and get buried in whatever graveyard or field was handy once the ground thawed. They might not have been carrying any identification at all and been anonymous burials
