For all you traditionally published authors, do they really pigeonhole you into a genre? I write horror, fantasy, soft sci-fi, magical realism, and goofy fairy tales. I use a pseudonym, and I don't really want to use a different one for each genre.
@LissaGromley That's what I want to do, get an agent. And that's exactly what I'm thinking. I don't want to self-publish if I can help it, but I really don't want to use multiple pseudonyms or whatever just to get all my different books published.
My pen name has a lot invested in it. I'm really hoping its not true.
@Melaradark I don't blame you. I self-publish because it's easiest for me and it gives me full control over my own books. Though if some agent came by and gave me a good deal, yeah, I'd talk to them. You gotta do what you know is best for you.
@LissaGromley I know trad publishing takes some control and money away from the books, but self-publishing just makes up the difference with a whole lot more hats. You have to become your own marketer, your own publicity agent, pay for editing etc.
I'll solicit agents that do multiple genres and see what happens. Not saying self-publish won't happen, I'll just be mad if I have to go that direction just because 'you can only write one genre or else people will get confuzzled'.
Thank you
@Melaradark It's rough either way, but like you said, both have their good points and their bad points.
@Melaradark If that's the case, I would not want to write for a traditional publisher, though I know some agents only accept certain types of genres. If I were to get an agent, I'd want one who accepts multiple genres.
