If you DNF(did not finish) a book do you still review it? Do you list it as an unfinished book and your reasons for not finishing it? Do you just forget about it? Or do you have a duty to warn others that you for whatever reason wanted to read it, but couldn't due to reasons?

@McMarkerson I don't dis books. I dont share the same tastes as others. What I dislike about a book maybe someone else's joy. Besides, you can never know the sweat and tears that an author puts into their art. If I have nothing good to say, I dont say anything

@Furyious I haven't reviewed books that I haven't finished before. I was just curious about others' takes. I usually employ a Page 100 test, if the book hasn't really caught me by that point, I put it aside. If I finish the book and didn't like it, they get an honest review.

@Furyious Recently read a book that I was 200 pages deep in and the characters who were presented as being a certain way were making their fourth stupid decision and I just couldn't. So I set it aside. Current book a supposed war hero admiral after having seen the "enemy" do something heinous is wondering aloud to a subordinate why the combatants aren't negotiating...despite having seen the horrible act perpetrated on orders from the highest levels as a "you must surrender" ploy.

@Furyious It's also like 5 tropes in. And you can get away with a few tropes, you know, the nothing new under the sun paradigm. But I'm beginning to fear that I'm in a House of Cards built of tropes with characters who don't have internal continuity. Shrug. Thanks for listening to

@McMarkerson

Being an author myself, I know that even an awful book took the writer an amazing amount of time to write.

If I can't finish a book, or really didn't like it, I simply don't review it.

With all the effort (and courage) it takes to put one's 'baby' out there - I wouldn't want to be the one to dump all over it.
