I am curious, does anyone believe
America will make it to 22nd century? At least intact. America is a nation that is totally divided. I cannot see how our government will be able to function effectively as divided as it is. With some of the stupidest individuals in our current government.
@MallyDaKatt I do.
I think the generations post-GenX are in a large majority progressive, inclusive and empathic people. That's not to say that older generations like mine can't be like that, too but in terms of sheer numbers, I think the next generations of voters are going to vote in their own interests and great change is ahead as a result.
There'll always be assholes, but their power will be so diminished as to make them mostly irrelevant.
@MallyDaKatt There are no internal power blocs pushing for a big break up, everyone is seeking to exploit the current system but nobody wants to end your union as a whole. There may be a lot of discontent, but without a big power bloc pushing for a break up, it can't happen.
@MallyDaKatt I'm open to the idea that there will be a nation state covering roughly the same territory, possibly with the same name and some sense of continuity from the nation we are now.
I think it unlikely that it will be the same nation in the way that various milestones have fundamentally changed who we were to this point: The Revolution, The Constitution, The Civil War, The New Deal, The War on Terror.
@MallyDaKatt At this point, I’m not sure it will make it til 2025.
America is deeply divided, not evenly divided.
@MallyDaKatt Intact, no. Some other version, yes.
