No matter how hard I try, no matter how persuasive I am, and no matter how many times she says "yeah you're probably right", my MIL still buys stuff thru links she sees on facebook. She's been scammed three times already this year and she did it again today. She bought a deeply discounted Harris-Walz hoodie, proceeds of which would "100% go to the campaign..." She already had her CC# stolen just a few weeks ago.

@MPCavalier
Maybe you can convince her to use privacy.com/ to get one-time virtual cards for on line purchases? She still gets scammed, but only the scams she chooses.

@AlphaCentauri
We've been very reluctant to try and manage her personal finances because we don't want to be seen as controlling her (she lives in our house). But we might be getting to the point where we have to step in and start managing her online purchases.

@MPCavalier Sorry to hear it. Having recently gone through it with my mother, my first thought was “early stage of dementia” — impulse control is definitely something that suffers

@MPCavalier More to the point, it took me ages to realize that she was becoming incapable of handling new information, which made persuading her to change her behavior extremely difficult

@Satchelpooch
She'll say "well I guess I learned my lesson" and then two months later she does it again. If I could just get her away from FB....
