Is it correct that hashtags are not mandatory to implement filters here? We can also filter words without hashtags, right? If i don’t want to see content about granite, can’t I just create a filter for “granite” and live a granite-free coso life?

I thought the real advantage of hashtags was to silo your coso desktop. Someone, little help?

So if I understand it, we have a population of coso users who misunderstand what hashtags are for. They are not for suppressing content, they are for finding and following content. So, a filtered word/phrase is always hidden from your view, and a hashtag is not a required component of a filter. That make sense? @_Psyber @JoyfullyDazed @DyDave @pendrag

@MPCavalier @_Psyber @JoyfullyDazed @DyDave @pendrag No. Not really. Ideally hashtags should be available for both positive and negative.

Okay so this leads to an interesting conversation. If i know that something I post contains 10 potential trigger words, the burden is on me the poster to hashtag each of those trigger words to decrease the chances that someone might see that post in the ‘hose and potentially sour on the coso experience. That starts to take up a lot of toot real estate. Thoughts?

The other issue is deciding what hashtag applies to what you're trying to say.

I see posts with # Politics that I think are more about # Justice or any number of other issues.

People's life experience, and therefore the way they relate to issues, differs so much that one person's 'politics' can be another person's day ending in 'y'.

Totally agree. And thats what les to my initial confusion. It seemed to me that folks who wanted to prevent content from appearing in their hose were putting an unnecessary and unsustainable burden on the poster. I mean if I dont want to see something thats inevitable I just cover my eyes, I dont try to stop the speeding truck.

@JoyfullyDazed @DyDave @Bald_Guy_With_Bike @_Psyber @pendrag
Yeah same. I think all of my filters have the word “cat” or the word “twitter”. I’ll read just about anything else!

@MPCavalier @JoyfullyDazed @Bald_Guy_With_Bike @_Psyber @pendrag

LOL! I'm guilty of the former. 😊

I've managed to make it all this time with no filters, no blocks, & no mutes and IMHO that's a pretty good indicator that this is an excellent place to hang out 🤷‍♂️

@JoyfullyDazed

Haha! Same.

For some reason, I always think about this scene from Blackhawk Down when the subject of scrolling past posts comes up:

And to be clear I AM NOT trying to disenfranchise anybody. I was so sure I had it wrong after 16 months on coso I figured I’d ask the community. I’’m not saying F YOU and your hashtags. I’m saying…..

@MPCavalier @DyDave @Bald_Guy_With_Bike @_Psyber @JoyfullyDazed @pendrag

I have around two dozen filters. There are a lot of different words people use when talking about that asshat former president and so I filter out every one I run into because I don’t give a damn about him.
