For Thorough Thursday, we're reflecting on an oft-told story about a major brawl in baseball's history.

But here, I'm more interested in how the way we tell this story invites us to lean into either the worst of our nature, or ideas about how we can improve.

What kind of group species do we want to be, and what would it take to get us there?

@MLClark I think the wild west taught many early Californians that survival wasn’t about conquest but about coexistence.

@MLClark and i think it is a matter of Time, too. Because a fast paced lifestyle lends itself to people being self-serving rather a contrast to early days here where people had to depend on one another for survival and things took more time

@MLClark We are a social species, wired to cooperate and coexist, yet we often glorify the moments where we act like rivals.

We need to bring back storytelling.. things that show people how much stronger we are together..

@Museek

Wholeheartedly agreed. The stories we tell, and the stories we lean into, have *such* power over our sense of safety, and our capacity for growth and change.

As you note, our "fast paced" culture is a huge problem. Fast paced to what end? Where are we going? What hurry to get there could possibly excuse leaving so many walking wounded among us, along the way?

🤗 Thank you for sharing these potent reflections, and for keeping story alive however you can, where you are.

@MLClark I often equate religious adherents as fandoms. So, I like you referring to baseball as a religion.

@MLClark I love this! I am going to share it with a 12 year old who loves baseball. 🙏🏼
