Getting my newspaper today was a bit of a trip, but what a bounty of items!
1) For the word nerds, a column on correct usage of the comma around porque and pero (syntax differs between tongues!);
2) #OnlyInColombia: Colombia sits down with one of the dominant guerrilla groups here, ELN, to talk economics and peace (because the two are always related);
3) Mpox in Colombia: only two active cases! Stayin' sharp!
And...
4) Book fair a-coming! September 6-15! π₯³ Who's comin' with? π
This was a gimmick at the indie bookstore where I worked for four years - common to a lot of small bookstores, really.
We'd prep mystery book displays for Christmas and Valentine's especially. Folks could also sign up sometimes for suprise deliveries of these mystery books to their or a friend's home, in care packages that partnered with other indie stores in the area to spread the joy.
It's a testament to how much folks love an added thrill in their reading, that the concept has a warm place in your thoughts!
Book culture for me has changed since I left Canada; I went from having a large library to the few volumes I brought with me, and the very rare new read, always in Spanish, when I've finished my last.
Most of my reading is for reviews, and the rare other English book is an e-read, too. Material holdings are few these days. Just a different phase of life!
@MLClark Ah yes, you told me that before. I apologize for the redundancy. π
