I love being an Old on the internet.
Sometimes I look at a download and think, oh no, 1.63 GB, it's going to take forever... because for a split-second 1998 called and recalibrated how I think about download speeds. π Who needs literal time travel when you can just live long enough to be astonished by everything anew on a whim?
@MLClark feeling nostalgic for the scream of a 9600 baud modem connecting?
βYouβve got mail!β
Oh baby! That's the good stuff!
@MLClark Hey, I still remember when emails literally took hours to show up after being sent.
You could conceivably have beaten the arrival time with a carrier pigeon!
@MLClark My first modem was 2400 bps and cost $$$.
@WordsmithFL @MLClark and it STILL took ALL FREAKIN' DAY to download Castle Wolfenstein!!
@MLClark I tell kids, back in the day we had to torture computers and thier screams allowed us to connect to the internet.
A lost art
@MLClark
I remember doing the quick math:
"Oh, this 10 second video clip is 3mb? That'll take 30 minutes to download... guess I'll go eat dinner and check back on it."
