Rats. Now that Copa's over I have to think about the rotten old world again, huh?
For the newsletter this week:
Prodigy for Monday; the new African confederation (the Alliance of Sahel States: Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso) for Tuesday; a GamerGate retrospective for Wednesday (ten years this August!); and a rumination on what our digital world could have been for Thursday.
Plus catch-up tasks for Patreon and BookTube.
But mostly, I just want to fast, reboot a proper sleep schedule, and run. ππ»
It'll be a bit more holistic, rather than getting into the weeds around every last detail for core events. I'm thinking more about how GamerGate gives a lot of other key events of the last decade a run for their money as critical turning points in our cultural expectations for a better future. It has stiff competition against 2016 and 2020 especially, but this supposedly niche event had huge implications for how tech was used by political actors thereafter.
Funny weird era, eh?
The gamergate was a testbed for coordinated online harassments

Yep! Now you're getting to the heart of what I plan to write on. The thing is, folks outside that world really still see it as a minor, niche event in our sociopolitical history, even though it shaped a lot!
@MLClark
Oh I am looking forward to what you have for the gamergate story
