Finally ordered solar filters for my telescope and camera. This increases the odds that it will rain on eclipse day, but you never know!

@MLClark I allowed myself a moment of openness and vulnerability while I was substitute teaching today. Usually, when students ask me if I'm married, I kind of duck and dodge and deflect the question. Today, I pretty much blurted out: "I was, but she passed away a few years ago." Surprise, surprise, the world did not end and the classroom did not explode. I'll have to keep in mind that I'm not protecting them, or myself, by lying or misleading, so why do it?
What a gift your honesty was for them as well. It's important for kids to know that life is complex. You've added depth to their understanding of the ways that adults have troubles, too. Thank you for your openness today - with them, and here as well.
