Oh, there it is! ๐
In today's news brief for OnlySky, I most certainly do *not* escalate nuclear panic, but I do offer a wee explainer around the extremely important issue of satellite warfare & orbital security that's been lost in this weekls talk of nuclear threats in Congress.
There *is* a danger in our skies--but it might not be the one you're thinking of, when the word "nuclear" comes to mind. We can't let fearmongering keep us from setting better policy in space.

They are going to turn low earth orbit into a meat grinder someday
Someday soon, too!
That's one possible positive use for some of the tech referenced here - but the projects in the works to bring down space debris definitely merit a piece all their own.
True Dat
I hope they reign in debris soon. Anything that makes getting off this egg and onto the stars is good. Anything less is short sighted
This species MUST find a way to propagate galactically
@AndersonArtwork @MLClark The only true future is in space. The earth cannot sustain humanity forever.
Whats interesting to me about this space nukes thing is that, if true, is a direct violation of the weaponization of space treaty we signed back in 1967 with Russia. It's why we never moved the God Rod system past prototype, that and it cost more than just nuking them.
I'm fluent in Typo. As long as the link works...it be A OK
Ugh. Replaced one typo in the above toot, and a new one arrived - but too late now. Letting it go.
There are some very good official reports linked in the piece, if anyone's inclined to do a deep dive. As always, my aim was to write in a way that makes the issue accessible. There's a lot more that could have been said, but hopefully this gets most important broad strokes across.
