@BosmangBeratna raised the excellent concept of a "Harm check" in a recent short. Freaking love the D&D framing for an important reminder to first ask yourself if a given decision will harm others.
If we were to craft a "Revolutions & Utopias" RPG, what would be some other must-have ability checks?
Kindness? (When trying to deescalate)
Consensus? (When choosing how to allocate resources)
Inclusivity? (When planning for a successful protest - e.g., are all dietary needs met?)
What else fits?
Oooo! That is such a good one! ๐ฅ
And the game could still definitely be made inclusive of the folks trying to build better in despair with a few possible "items" or situational offsets (e.g. collective hope-check from all in your vicinity, if your own flame is feeling a little weak).
Some really great game-play dynamics could come out of this one for sure! ๐
@MLClark @BosmangBeratna THanks buddy! I love collaborative brain storming.
@MLClark @BosmangBeratna conflict management - the ability to facilitate productive / safe conflict. Might align with negotiation.
Love that reframe of "negotiation", which definitely has more of a controlling vibe. ๐
Can we call is Compassionate Could-be Countries (c)
Oh, nice! I was originally stuck on the "K" from kindness and VERY LEERY about a title that involves more than one K. ๐ฌ
But Compassionate Could-bes sounds great. :)
I was just thinking that such a game would also probably have something other than class and race, so...
Maybe a choice of quadrant segment, around xyz axes that measure from
x) competitive - collaborative
y) statist - anarchist
z) traditionalist - innovator
Giving IDs like
Competitive anarchist innovator?
And then people could flesh out their backgrounds in all sorts of fun ways.
Traditionalist could mean bringing Indigenous knowledge to the fore, or relate to religiously informed communalism.
Innovator could be everything from a technologist to grassroots solar-punk inventor.
Competitive statists would probably include social democrats, but one could easily slide to collaborative statist in practice via commitments to social welfare over time.
Tons of options for game-play!
Haha, I just want to see the Tankies of the Americas tango with the Jihadists of Birmingshire
Let's be real, lol
๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ True, but there's always a chance of accidental ideological flips along the way.
"Hey, did you know we can fortify our lands better from infidels if we rely on renewables to charge the fences? And if we hook in the compost system, those heathens won't stand a chance!"
"Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know we've launched a tool library & materials exchange here in New Stalingrad. Check it out for all your firearm & tank tune-up needs!"
๐ We'll get em one way or another.
Oooo, I like this!
And resources/conditions are relatively to your starting location, with a dice roll for whether or not you start out in-debted or 'with a modest loan of ยฃ1,000,000' lol
@MLClark @BosmangBeratna First idea that comes to mind is hope. Hope can change the way a people fight, and the ethics that they embrace about the fight.,
