Switching over to night mode hasn't been as easy as I'd hoped. My body's been acting like it's infected, which it isn't. It's just stressed out by the switch - but that affected my voice, which meant last night I couldn't get as much done as I wanted to. Still hurts now.

Today, my one evening class cancelled, so I'm going to stay awake until 3pm, sleep until 10, and give it another shot.

These things take time! πŸ™ƒ But I am also definitely not the whippersnapper I once was.

@MLClark Would it help you sleep if I told you more boring Star Trek trivia? 😴

@MLClark When Shatner and/or Nimoy would appear at cons, inevitably someone would ask them to tell the story about Shatner stealing Nimoy's bicycle.

Everyone had heard it dozens of times, but they tell it so well it was a convention staple.

Two smashing classics.

Cheers, Stephen. Hope the day is winding down well.

@WordsmithFL

No, I couldn't stay down, and didn't want to fritter time away if I couldn't pull off the right sleep window.

Some days the brain is just like that. Currently working on the novel until it's late enough, and then I'll try to get a few chapters of recording in before night's end - but a quick walk first. (Executive function needs a tune-up.)

Fingers crossed that it's a relatively calm Friday in the building! Hope you've got something fun to watch/read/take in on your end.

@MLClark I worked in law enforcement out of college for seven years. I *hated* graveyard shifts. But others took to it like fish to water.

When I was single, living alone, and self-employed, I could stay up as late as I wanted to write. The juices started around 9 PM and I've go until 3 AM.

I sometimes wonder if writers are better off being alone. I have to compromise my activities and hours.

She'll be gone next month for 12 days, so I can stay up late writing. C'est le mariage.

@WordsmithFL

Pros and cons. There's a myth of value one has to sustain for oneself solo, which is no easy task when there's no one to bounce your rattled brain off of, for perspective.

When one has a good teammate by one's side, to affirm the myth of value and pull one away from being consumed by worldly sorrows? Oh, that can be a real gift. The structure of a good fellow traveller is often far better than the alternative.

But... I hope you have a grand spurt of bachelor writing-time soon! 😊

@MLClark Well, not to delve too deeply into personal matters, my wife really isn't into my writing. If I want to bounce stuff, I come here or to Facebook friends.

But there is a certain value in having someone where you can step away and do something else.

@WordsmithFL

Oh, I meant bouncing brain-stuff, not writing! πŸ˜‚ Some couples read each other's work, and that's great for them, but I've never had a partner who read my work.

What I mean is the *other* brain noise, that can get in the way of writing & healthy living. Sometimes it's nice to be able to touch base quickly with someone who gets you out of your own head-space.

Still--

S: Woo! 12 days solo!
Friends: Uh huh. So... working on that book?
S: ...Well, yes. What else would I get up to? πŸ‘Ό

@MLClark Okay, I understand now. Our tastes largely run similar, so I can take a break to go watch the TV. We just finished a TNG binge ("All Good Things ...") and we're in Season 9 of "Big Bang."

As you know, I'm an introvert, so it's really hard to live with someone, even after almost 20 years. The occasional solitude keeps me sane.

As for πŸ‘Ό... I'm an Angels baseball fan and used to do photography for them. More of a pun than you suspected. πŸ˜‰
