Finally feeling the effects of coffee. Way late for me - had early fasting blood draws. The lab vampire informed me while I was listlessly giving her my uncaffeinated arm that I could have had black coffee or water for fasting blood work. Little late on that news at least now home and attached to the coffee pot. All is as it should be.
@Lucky188 my surgeon allowed black coffee or water before surgery too...
@redenigma I wasn't sure and went to web MD (my mistake) and read there that only water was allowed for fasting blood work-they even highlighted that coffee/caffeine can effect blood sugars. (lab said insignificantly so)
I only bounced off a couple walls and a doorway as a result of non-caffeinated ambulation - but next time I know!
@Lucky188 it actually depends on the doctor, i think.
my doctor had me take fasting labs when i had coffee with milk, sugar & cocoa only 4 hours before...
taking biotin messes up the blood labs for TSH, T3 & T4. it's suggested to stop taking it a week before having labs, or at least informing the lab you take it
@redenigma Lab tech did say some depends on what tests - and cream and sugar were usually out - but black coffee or water were fine.
