@stueytheround Undertow is the album they started being more exotic and closer to the sound now. It's the second album. The first album Opiate was a good album but they didn't sound like "Tool" I'd start with Undertow and watch the music grow increasingly technical album by album.

I don't know who they cite as influences, but I'm hearing Pearl Jam, AIC and even a bit of Motorhead in there.
I'm going to check out undertow tomorrow.
@LowEndMuse Confession: I've never given Tool much listening apart from the occasional track posted here.
Where would be a good place to start? Least challenging perhaps for a newbie.
So many folk adore them, they must be doing *something* right!
