The only holiday i can think of that I don't care for is Columbus day because he is a moron lmao. In history class I would get in trouble for laughing about this dude.

@Nerdsleaze While getting my degree in English I read some of his journal entries. He and his sailors were MONSTERS. One detail in particular still haunts me, but I won’t burden you with it. It’s too gruesome.

@Nerdsleaze Okay, you asked for it 😳

They would play a football like game once they landed on the islands in the Caribbean, and they would grab black babies out of the arms of their screaming black mothers and use the babies as the football.

Like I said, monsters.

@Nerdsleaze From what I’ve read, I think the Spanish explorers were the most brutal, then the Belgians tied them in the Congo. Most other white people took a close second.

Surprisingly, the only white people who weren’t brutal were the Puritans who came over on the Mayflower. They didn’t enslave anyone, and just tried to start a new life for themselves in peace in a new land. Did it go well? No. A lot of them died. But, they were peaceful for white people.

@LindaGoodliffe i knew there was a reason I loved the Puritans. Maybe because that's one of the few things i took away in history class. Are you a history buff? Do you write? I'm interested lol

@Nerdsleaze My grandfather was a history teacher for 20 years and instilled a love of history in all of us. But, most of what I know about this is from reading all kinds of literature while I got my degree in English. I got to go to a really good school. But, I am a writer, and I do research for both prose and poetry. But, again, I know this stuff from my literature classes.

Read HEART OF DARKNESS to find out what the Belgians did to the people of the Congo, if you’re interested.

@Nerdsleaze As for the Puritans, I not only read journals, which should be readily available because the Mayflower is famous, but I also read poetry written by a Puritan woman who was held captive by the Native Americans. Then, there’s Cotton Mather, who was a zealot, but he was quite a while after the Mayflower. But, none of them had slaves to my knowledge, which I like about them too, like the Quakers.

@LindaGoodliffe frickin quakers lol i just love the word Quaker haha. That's soooo cool!
