People are saying that the 2024 election for President of the United States is going to be very close; and that is no doubt the safest thing to suppose.

But it may not be.

There are two huge unknowns about the election which pollsters and pundits can't quantify well enough to factor into predictions.

One is the people who would refuse to vote for Kamala Harris because she's a non-white woman, but would feel uncomfortable admitting that outside of a private setting.

The other is all the new people who have been energized and inspired to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, who have perhaps only voted rarely or perhaps never before.

These two factors might simply cancel each other out. But it's also possible that one could significantly outweigh the other. Until the actual votes are cast and counted, we're not going to know, and it would be foolish to make a certain prediction.
