So, I've finally ditched Plex for Emby. Why? Because Plex, in its infinite wisdom, decided to fix something which wasn't broken, and it made it unattractive to me for managing my media library.

@LiberalLibrarian

Just out of curiosity, what was the change that made you abandon Plex?

@BenA So, you had to upgrade to their new movie and tv show scanner. And it just gave me weird results, at least on the TV show side. No issues with Emby so far.

@BenA And I played with Jellyfin, but that required too much tinkering under the hood. Yes, I'm paying for an Emby sub, but I paid for Plex as well. I don't mind paying as long as I get the functionality I want.

@LiberalLibrarian

I've got some problems with Plex as well, but my media collection is SO big that the idea of starting over again with another application interferes with my normal heart rhythms....

@BenA Yeah, that's why I hesitated for so long. But you can run both Plex and Emby at the same time, and compare and contrast. It was pretty smooth.

@opie I played with Jellyfin, but you had to do a plugin to add TVDB functionality, and I don't feel like tinkering.

@LiberalLibrarian

ya just add the plugin and let it do its thing...I did no tinkering...all my shows have fully populated metadata

I looked at emby too...but they were doin some of that "only with plexpass" bullcrap which was the reason I ditched plex...so I went with jellyfin (which is a fork of emby) and have been very pleased...
