What if Hamas knows it can't defeat Israel or achieve any of its aims? What if it has just decided to bring about Götterdämmerung?

@LiberalLibrarian I honestly don't know what else they can do. If they don't fight back, Israel will just annihilate them all anyway. How can they possibly "win" anything, at this point.
