Sometimes, the broken people I see every day as a librarian get to my heart especially hard. Today is one of those days.
@ayankdownunder And the piece I read in the LA Times today didn't help...
@LiberalLibrarian this piece?
“L.A. riders bail on Metro trains amid ‘horror’ of deadly drug overdoses, crime“
@ayankdownunder Yep, that's the one. I shared it earlier.
@LiberalLibrarian I didn’t see it, apparently. Asynchronous CoSo’ing.
Understandable why it would hit you so hard.❤️ Libraries are the safe space for folks, especially when they need a safe space. That’s the case internationally.
@LiberalLibrarian Know that feeling.
You don't have to help them all, and you don't have to help them all the way. You're doing Good.
@b4cks4w And sometimes I can't help them at hell, but have to eject them to protect the other people here.
@LiberalLibrarian -- and that may even be the help they need -- hitting bottom and all that.
Still tough stuff.
Happens to me walking early AM in Asheville. Same homeless folks sleep in certain doorways, benches, alleys.
Seeing them refuse to use emergency shelters and suffering in very cold weather is heart-breaking.
