@L_D_G Those recently came to the Dayton OH area. They have a distinctive tap - fades as it goes - which I had not heard before last year.
@Mark15 the specifics of drumming is only something I recently really picked up on. A Downy right over my head sounds deceptively large. Having knowingly heard the Pileated, it helps.to finally frame them all unique. Red belly also seems more likely to call than the rest.
@L_D_G Coincidentally the Dayton Daily News ran an article that appears in my FB feed today about birders possibly spotting an ivory-billed woodpecker, apparently very rare.
@L_D_G Which woodpecker is that?
