Thanks to a write-in campaign initiated by Trekkies, NASA's first space shuttle in 1976 was named Enterprise instead of the Constitution.
Star Trek’s creator Rodenberry and many of the show’s cast members attended the Shuttle rollout ceremony, hosted by NASA Administrator James C. Fletcher, in Sep 1976.
