couldn’t sleep last night, as i’m sure is the case for others here. my thoughts kept darting from all the kids who will die of or be disabled by preventable diseases… to damn it, redoing my kitchen and bathrooms is going to cost 2x to 3x what it would have otherwise… to my dad losing Medicare coverage and not being able to get health insurance because he’s 81 and has many pre-existing conditions… to me losing my health insurance… to hoping the leopards eat all their faces, and then some.

Generally you do not lose medicare due to age- as it's a federal program.
Even if he chooses not to pick up the supplemental insurance he still has basic coverage for doctors & hospitals.
You may check on your states market place for insurance options even with pre existing conditions they will find a plan for you.
I've been dropped 4x by insurance companies in the last 3 years for pre existing conditions -
It's frustrating !
