People keep getting befuddled by the fact that sometimes very smart people are involved in very hateful, nutty things.
However, evil usually isn't just a matter of either ignorance or stupidity: It is a matter of the heart.
The source of this befuddlement stems from modern society's worship at the altar of rationalism, as though knowledge, education, and intelligence will right all the wrongs in the world. Certainly these are all good things.
