What @corlin said, & also adding that it helps make connections if you flesh out the profile. A user pic is kind of a basic start for a lot of earlier users; some won't really bother with "egg" profile posts. That said, we have a diverse user base, so I'm sure you'll still make friends over time.
If you couldn't answer a question by checking the help guide, use (#)Help or (#)CoSoHelp (remove parentheses). In fact, learn to use hashtags: big help here.

Oh, I also noticed your brief profile note said "no politics." On the hose there's a lot of that sometimes (tho to be fair there's a lot of everything on the hose), so it might be useful for you to look up in the user guide for making lists and filters.
Lists will let you curate timelines to focus on your favorite topics/tags.
Filters let you remove content from your timelines that you don't want to see.
Hashtags are ideal so you can better ensure your content finds the right ppl.
