Now Sterling. Tried to push back on disinformation. Asked Trump directly to stop inspiring people to violence. "It's not right."

HCR

That press conference was because a young contractor had been receiving threats thanks to a QAnon video and Sterling saw on Twitter that someone had put that man's name with a noose and said "May God have mercy on your soul." Sterling lost it.

HCR

Trump didn't back off. Instead, he tweeted that there was "massive voter fraud in Georgia." That was false.

HCR

Next day Trump released a video claiming thousands and thousands of votes "all out of whack... all against me."

HCR

Then Giuliani goes to Georgia and starts conspiracy theory about "suitcases of ballots" run through counting machines in the middle of the night. All false.

HCR

Giuliani calls it a "powerful smoking gun." Says those votes are illegitimate. Trump pushes the video footage even as Giuliani pushes out his testimony. All false. Sterling says they reviewed the entire video. It actually showed...

HCR

Fulton County election workers engaging in normal ballot processing. The "suitcases" were election workers going home. They put ballots in secure boxes so they can go home, and putting them under the tables.

HCR

They thought they were going home. Elections director said put your ass*s back in the chairs. (I paraphrase.) They take their coats off and take the ballots back out.

HCR

All standard operating procedure. The hand tally shows the counting was virtually perfect.

HCR

Sterling kept talking to the people to try to clarify what was really going on. All in plain view. Says he's frustrated that Trump's lawyers keep mischaracterizing it. Their version is "untrue."

HCR

"I just know in my heart they cheated." (And that's what we're up against.)

HCR

Trump continues to say the election is stolen. Blames "Democrats workers." Insists he actually won Georgia.

HCR

Jeffrey Pugh
@JeffreyCPugh

The overlap of people who know Jesus "in their heart" and know the election was corrupt "in their heart" may be more extensive than I imagine.

HCR

Bjay Pak says there was nothing to the accusations. Giuliani was wrong. AG Bill Barr said they, too, looked at it, and the accusations "had no merit."

And they told Trump that.

HCR

(Again, Trump wasn't going to let it go even if he knew it was false because it created justification for him to try to stay in power.)

HCR

Meadows texted 18 times to set up the call w/ Raffensperger. Meadows went to GA. Also set up a call with Frances Watson in which Trump pressures her to change the votes.

HCR

Trump totally sounds like a pathetic child.

HCR

Raffensperger says Trump lost because people refused to vote for him although they voted Republican down ballot.

HCR

White House wanted to swamp the Georgia inspectors with White House stuff. Trump appears to threaten Watson's job.

HCR

Now the Raffensperger call (which R taped because Lindsey Graham had called earlier and then denied what was said. R wanted to protect himself.)

HCR

Trump to Raffensperger call was 67 minutes. Trump again with the suitcases. Everyone had told him that the story of them was false.

HCR

Sterling says they are standard storage boxes.

HCR

The full phone call is on the J6 website. I don't have a link atm.

Sterling says that Fulton County had monitor on site. Before he left, he noted how many ballots had been counted on each machine. He did it again later, so we have the exact numbers-- there were no 18K new ballots.

HCR

(I want to be president and just be able to make sh*t up. But boy would my fantasies be more uplifting than his.)

No dead voters, either.

HCR

Trump says there's no reason not to just say they were wrong and say they recounted. Raffensperger says that was illegal. "The numbers are the numbers and the numbers don't lie."

Raffensperger tells Trump those who found nothing illegitimate were either "dishonest or incompetent."

HCR

Lin Wood tweets that Raffensperger will "soon be going to jail." Then Trump says....

HCR

that R is going to find they're shredding ballots. (He's bonkers.) Says R is taking a "criminal... risk" not to throw them out.

HCR

Then Trump asks: "I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the state." Raffensperger says to Schiff: "There were no votes to find."

HCR

Trump warns Raffensperger that it is "very dangerous for you to say" that there was no fraud. R interpreted this as a threat.

HCR

Raffensperger and wife both doxxed. Sexual doxxing for her. Broke into DIL's home (she's a widow). Worried for her and her kids. Didn't quit because it's important to follow the law and the Constitution.

HCR

Trump: "Why wouldn't you want to find the right answer, Brad?... Everyone's going to look very good if the truth comes out.... The real truth is that I won by 400,000 votes at least.... Fellas, I need 11,000 votes. Give me a break."

HCR

January 6 Ellipse rally: Trump continued to lie about Fulton County, Georgia, saying that there were 100,000 illegal votes for Biden dumped in the middle of the night.

HCR

Schiff thanks Bowers, Raffensperger, and Sterling. That panel is now dismissed.

HCR

Now the election worker that Trump blamed (falsely) for cheating. You will be shocked, SHOCKED I say, to hear that she is Black. (Sorry. Editorializing.)

HCR

Ms. Moss. 2017-2022 was a Fulton County election worker. She and her mother, Ruby Freeman, were Trump's targets. "Unsung heroes keeping our democracy functioning." (Amen to that.)

HCR

Awww.... She introducing her mother. I love the emphasis here on the American people. This is not theoretical. These are our neighbors who help our system function.

HCR

Schiff now. She worked for the system for more than ten years and loved her job because of how important it is to vote, and how for a long time older Black Americans did not have that right. She loved to help the older voters.

HCR

People trusted her. The next generation of Civil Rights workers (on this day in 1964, 3 civil rights workers-- Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner-- trying to register Black voters were murdered in Mississippi). Moss walks in their path. (Damn, history braids us all together.)

HCR

Trump and Giuliani said Moss and Freeman were criminals. Giuliani on December 10 said they were: "quite obviously surreptitiously passing around USB ports as if they were heroin or cocaine."

Follow

HCR

She heard about it when her bosses showed her the video. She was shocked "Why are they doing this?" Trump and his allies not satisfied with the outcome of the election. Election workers getting threats. Told her to check on her mom.

HCR

She opens Facebook in panic, but doesn't know how to use it well, so they show her how to use Messenger. She finds death threats, say she and her mother will go to jail, threatening lynching. Lots of racist ones; lots of hateful ones.

The USB port was a gingermint.

HCR

Trump says that Ruby Freeman is a profession vote schemer. Uses her name 18 times. Moss says she felt like it was all her fault for being an election worker. Attacking her mom-- Moss is an only child. Attacking her grandmother and her child.

HCR

Felt horrible for being the one who always wants to help, always wants to be there. (Trump and his people weaponize our best qualities against us.)

HCR

Ruby Freeman's testimony. She was known as "Lady Ruby," owned a clothing shop. Was wearing a Lady Ruby shirt on Election Day 2020. Will never wear it again. Won't even use her name any more.

HCR

Always worried about who's around her. Have lost her name, reputation, sense of security, all because a bunch of people led by Trump and Giuliani scapegoated her and her daughter to push their lies.

Moss: It has turned her life upside down. Don't want anyone knowing my name. Can't go out. Gained 60 pounds. Second guess everything that she does. Affected her life in every way. "All because of lies. Me doing my job. Same thing I've been doing forever."

HCR

Freeman had to go into hiding, told by the FBI she had to leave her home for safety. Stayed away for 2 months. (Remember, this is the midst of Covid.) Thought: "I can't believe this one person has so much damage to me and my family."

HCR

FBI said she had to leave because of January 6. They worried that people would come to her home. Told her to stay away until at least the inauguration. Freeman is quietly weeping in the hearing room.

HCR

They also went for Moss's grandmother. She called Moss screaming, saying that there were people at her home, knocked at her door. She opened it and they started pushing their way in to make a citizens arrest.

HCR

At night people would continuously send pizzas to harass her, so she would be asked to pay for them repeatedly. She's stuck at home, now, unable to go out.

HCR

All the people in that video have now left their jobs. Moss quit, too. (This is such a loss. She and her mother are exactly the sort of people we need in those positions.)

HCR

Freeman: "There is nowhere I feel safe. Nowhere. Do you know how it feels to have the president of the United States target you?" He's supposed to represent everyone, but he targeted me, as I was trying to help run an election during a pandemic.

HCR

Thompson thanks Moss and Freeman. (Me, too! Thank you both. And your grandma, too.)

HCR

(No one is real to Trump. They are all bit players in his drama. So if he lies to false electors or ruins the lives of election workers... I doubt he ever thinks of it again.)

HCR

Schiff: Trump's actions were unconstitutional, unpatriotic, and unAmerican.

The FBI expected violence on Jan 6?

@ElieNYC

I'm going to cry. The shit that this country is comfortable allowing to happen to black folks simply for TRYING to participate in the Republic.

HCR

Schiff: Election workers across the country are leaving their posts. (They are being replaced by pro-Trump people, who follow their "gut" rather than the numbers.)

Extensive and graphic evidence of the thousands of death threats aimed at ordinary citizens just doing their jobs because of Donald Trump's lies, and those who enabled those lives. This is a national shame.

@Jezibaba This enrages me. She didn't deserve any of this, and our system failed to protect her from Trumps reach.

@Jezibaba Be glad you weren’t around the South during the 60’s.

@Jezibaba And criminal, treasonous that the survival democracy demands Trump to be prosecution. Plus Civil charges for the damage Trump and each individual that participated in these monsterous crimes, violence that have harmed the true American Patriots that stood firm to protect the Constitutions of the USA and individual States.

@Jezibaba Thank you, Jezi. I was only able to watch part, but I was able to catch up with your very excellent live transcript.
