I joined a dating site and had a chat back with this lady (I'm bi) Then she sent me these questions:
Why would she want to know about my childhood? Does that sound like a red flag?

@JeniRizio I'd tend to see that as just wanting to know about your general life history. As in, looking for something in common..

@JeniRizio more nosy than a red flag. She’s probably one of those who believe you must have a “reason”. None of your personal life is her business.

@Cryspeg exactly. i call it info-gathering. i worry about people using it against me later. then again, I need to see each person with a clean slate. I'm not sure how -- or if -- I will reply.

@JeniRizio could be legit just wanna know more about you

or

could be phishing for info about you for social engineering hack

be cautious of any personal info you share

@ecksmc I learned about social engineering at work. I need to stay safe. so many scammers out there and now I worry that AI is making it worse

@JeniRizio It sounds like a marketing person or bot attempting to do market research.

@JeniRizio I mean, if someone _sounds_ like they're doing a marketing segmentation questionnaire when you're supposed to be flirting, even if they're not a marketing bot, the date probably wouldn't be a lot of fun anyway.

@CoyoteConscious omg so true! maybe she wants to meet up and sell me some mlm shit. people are sick out there.

@JeniRizio Yeah, remember when people would just try to catfish us romantically, and not try to sell us something?

@JeniRizio My own $.02, it's a dating site! Everything sounds like a red flag because it is set up that way. It immediately thrusts you into a "Get To Know You" phase. Keep it general. Stay away from dates, last names etc until a good bit later. Anything that feels the slightest bit like a security question, avoid.

@JeniRizio
She may just be making conversation or she could be trying to get information about you. I've never used a dating site but this would raise a red flag for me especially if it was someone I hadn't known long. But I'm also probably more private than the average person. Personally I would keep it very general.

@JeniRizio that's weird to me. unless someone has earned the right to be in my home, they don't need to know about my childhood. It'd make more sense if she asked about current hobbies.

@JeniRizio 'High school lifestyle' is a bit of an odd one. 🤔 My default is suspicion anyway; as in resting suspicion face. 😅

@JeniRizio Possibly, or translated. I wonder how many people are using ChatGPT to write their small talk for them. 🤔
