I have come to the inescapable conclusion that my compost bin is a failure. Just sludge. Not enough "brown" to "green," although I periodically fill it with leaves.

It is a plastic box type with a lid that sits on the bare ground. Really difficult to aerate since you have to do it with a gardening fork from the top.

Thinking about a tumble composter; has to be something critter-proof for veg scraps.

Gardeners--have you used a tumble composter successfully? If so, what kind?

Hmmmm that composter looks like it could work also. The "dual-chamber" solution seems to be a thing.

Gardening friend has two separate composter units on different "schedules" but something like this could be more space-efficient.
