I've been raging about the R. Kelly allegations for months, because his abuse of girls is repugnant and I think the dude needs to be buried under a prison. Yet my posts on the topic get very little traction or response except from those friends of mine who are people of color. Apparently white people just don't consider the abuse of black girls is their problem. It's "other".
Be better than that, people.
@malice I think it’s horrible. Tbh, as a victim of sexual abuse myself, I find all the talk of these different sexual abuse cases triggering. Obviously I only speak for myself, but I haven’t commented on any of it, for that reason. Maybe some of the lack of engagement you’re getting is due to similar reasons? I guess I naively hope for the best in people and don’t want to view their lack of a response as a race issue.. if it is, in the case of your posts, I agree people need to be better.

@JeSsA I think there's also a general discomfort among white liberals who feel like they don't have a right to speak on issues in the black community, which in cases like this is terribly misguided.

@JeSsA @malice Could also be that some survivors are still dealing with the after effects of Kavanaugh- fatigue. I know I am still talking with the therapist about it. All this time later. I still can't believe that fucker is on the bench, making rulings. That someone like RBG is forced to be in the same room with him is a national disgrace.
@JeSsA Possible but I don't think so. Sexual abuse and the abuse of women in general is a topic I tend to harp on about pretty frequently, and people engage with me about it all the time because of that. It's only been noticably thin in this case, and it's not like anyone I know is an R&B fan. They're just like "ugh, horrible" but they don't get emotionally involved, because it's just not their problem.
