My two cents: If a politician changes party affiliation -- AFTER being elected to office -- that person should have to resign because that is NOT what the voters voted for.
They should be made to resign; another politician (from the original party affiliation) should be appointed to serve out the term; and then the person who switched parties can always run in the next election.
