Greg Bear died yesterday. He's one of the authors who helped found Comic Con. He was an amazing author.
Just got off a Zoom conference with David Gerrold & other authors who commented what a great person he was.

Don't know if you follow David Gerrold (FB/Patreon, etc.) but he's been in mourning since yesterday. 😢
Gerrold is going to a conference next week to speak about Bear and may not be on next Sunday's meet up Zoom meeting (Patreon).
CJ Cherryh is fighting cancer 🙁 but she's hanging in there and still writing.
@hollyjahangiri @Darkenyght1701
I follow Cherryh on FB. She has neurological problems from the cancer treatment, but is plugging away. Talks about 🐱 training a lot.
Deborah Harkness has recovered from ovarian cancer as of last June. Fingers crossed.
Many authors who inspired me are photon on their way to the Orion Nebula now: Chalker, Zelazney, McCaffrey, Tepper, MZB, etc.
Bear's death after "routine" heart surgery took me by surprise.

Re: CJ Cherryh
The balance in cancer treatment is: death/neurological impact. death/chemo brain, etc.
I have a lot of friends who went down that path and chose "I'll select presently hidden impacts rather than die" for $500, Alex.
CJ is still writing, fortunately. She's got a marvelous mind and way of capturing the reader.
I also wish her all the best. Often the side-effects of treatment are crippling, but better than death.
@J_Windrow @hollyjahangiri oh I'm well aware.
My mum underwent surgery for breast cancer in 2000 after undergoing several rounds of chemo/ radiation.
Unfortunately, it had spread to the point that they didn't get it all, so she had additional chemo/ radiation treatments.
She passed in August of 2007, a week after my birthday. I was the last person that she saw.
Death of a beloved parent is incredibly difficult. My mother died of cancer when I was in my mid-20s. It was as a result of all the side effects of the treatments. She'd have likely lived longer without it and had less suffering. But one never knows.
She''s now been gone longer than I had her in my life, and I still miss her daily.
Good on you for being there with your Mum when she passed.
@Darkenyght1701 @J_Windrow I'm so sorry. I've survived breast and neuroendocrine cancer. I worried more about my kids, both times, than about me.
@hollyjahangiri @J_Windrow Thanks.
We always thought she still be here if she hadn't had a mini stroke a couple of years before she passed.
That took a lot out of her
@J_Windrow @hollyjahangiri I have a lot of CJ's books on my bookshelves, especially the " Foreigner" series.
Hopefully she makes a full recovery
