I know it's hard to figure out what to say when you have a totally irrational person spouting unexpected garbage at you, but the more pointed response would be: "You've been coordinating a campaign in which your surrogates attack the Vice President as a 'DEI hire.' How can you do that if you don't know what the word means? What are you trying to convey with that language?"
