Not what I'm thinking, but it is what some are thinking.

Abraham Lincoln's main argument was that the Civil War was unavoidable, something the United States had to go through. Maybe the only way the American political system will bounce back to something normal is if Trumpism is taken to its logical conclusion.

@b2bjacks I'm more inclined to think Trumpism is just a new offensive in a Civil War that never really ended. The oligarchic faction had to surrender de jure chattel slavery, but quickly adapted to de facto penal slavery, segregation, and vote suppression.
It's shifted from racism to nationalism (out loud, anyway, mostly) as its way of saying that in "all men are created equal" the term "all men" doesn't actually mean "all people" but "all US citizens" or "all US citizens with homes," and so on.
