yes, the declaration of independence mentions a deity, but not in any context that makes the US a Christian country & that the state can use religious doctrine to write laws
That's just a fantasy. Founding Fathers from Washington to Adams to Jefferson have flatly stated that America isn't a "Christian nation". What the Constitution says about it is in the Establishment Clause which forbids the government from endorsing, supporting, or promoting some particular set of religious beliefs.
Both Muslims and Jews fought the British in the American Revolution.
@mcfate when i say this, i get "well, the states had state religions"... and yeah, some did for short periods of time but it was a forced thing, like having to convert from being a Quaker in MA,, or anything

Does a true religion need the power of the state behind it?
If we want our religion to guide the state's actions, we already have a way to do that: vote as our religion bids us.
