@mcfate Heather Cox Richardson points out that last time a Democrat president declined to run for reelection--LBJ in spring of '68--the Democrat candidate lost.
TBF, a potential Democrat candidate was assassinated; and the country was so tired of war, anti-draft and -war demonstrations, inflation, race riots, and some Democrats so resentful of the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, no Democrats could have won. So '68 =/= '24.
Still, there's no viable alternative.

All I feel obliged to point out is that the only names which are getting provided, pretty much under duress, are people who either can't possibly win (e.g. Gavin Newsom, or Josh Shapiro) or people who have no interest in running (e.g. Michelle Obama).
There's definitely an unacknowledged "AND THEN A MIRACLE HAPPENS" or maybe just "?????????" in their "plans".
