Saw one of these guys the other day -- a Varied Thrush, also known as "what the hell bird is that?" It's a secretive bird that keeps to itself, though with plumage like that you'd think hiding wouldn't be the first thing on it mind.
@ImagineThat We see them sometimes when the weather is turbulent. If you're not looking closely, you might mistake one for a robin. But they sound quite a bit different - sustained, piercing notes that are almost a more reliable identifier than their appearance.
@ImagineThat Toss it in the leaf litter under some trees (foresty-kind) and watch it disappear.
