Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a progressive and fatal brain disease associated with repeated traumatic brain injuries,
It often leads to cognitive impairment later in life for those young people who experienced repeated concussions, and yet..
We allow this to happen even in very young boys who play football.
Yes, Football is followed by millions (in the US), as it is considered an essential entertainment!
Banning football seems like an impossible task, or is it?
@LnzyHou Tag football is less dangerous since broken bones can mend, but the brain can't, it is a permanent damage!
Plenty of concussions too
@LnzyHou did they see it as a problem in the school and did they do something about it?
@Helveticus Everytime I read about CTE I thank the heavens Herschel Walker lost the election.
@Charles_Hawtrey Right? He clearly shows signs of dementia!
@Helveticus Herschel or Trumpy? 🤣 Trumpy is in early stage Alzheimer's, I think anyway.
@Helveticus While CTE is most prevalent in American football and boxing, it is also not uncommon in soccer, rugby, hockey and wrestling. Probably MMA as well.
I don't know the answer, but banning a sport or multiple sports seems like a step the world is not wiling to take.
@misslovelymess I played soccer for 20 years and had plenty of headers but luckily I am OK in my old age!
@misslovelymess
Maybe scientists should show MRIs of ex players and compare that with one from healthy of same age.
I once saw a diseased lung and that convinced me to stop smoking!!
@Helveticus I've seen some MRI's on shows like Real Sports. It's scary. And completely agree on the lung thing, recently stopped myself.
@Helveticus
My son played in elementary school through high school. It was very therapeutic for him and me.
He decided to play tag football in his 20’s which requires no equipment. Although very exciting, almost every game ended with broken bones.
I’m grateful he quit after one season.
