#culture Why is it that most younger folks do not trust, do not listen to people over 80 years of age?
Assuming of course the old ones do not suffer from senility or Alzheimer!
Don't they have something valuable to teach us?
Joe Biden lived through the hot and cold wars of the 20th century! Isn't that useful when confronting mad men like Putin?
Just a thought!
@TrueBloodNet Yes, the tech has left many senior citizens behind, but is the technical progress a good metric for wisdom and experience?
No, of course not, after all human nature is the same, no matter what technology offers us!
@TrueBloodNet I agree partially, because the real communication between people has always been face to face. Yes, I can see my sister in Switzerland with Face Time, but it cannot replace physical and non verbal messages.
I am right now still advising two former students through my phone messages but the real gain is when they come to my house.
But I agree that our wisdom has a narrower focus. 😎
@Helveticus Right. I agree but two points remain: 1. the way people communicate has evolved and many seniors have not kept up. Little communication means lack of familiarity and therefore less appreciation for elders and youth and less understanding as the language is changing. 2. Society itself is changing. Acceptance of PoC, sexual diversity, religious diversity etc is found more robustly in the young. Therefore, the 'wisdom' of seniors has become a more narrow and fraught idea.
