Here’s the deal: We stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential.

@GlennS So essential needs are supposed to be delivered without a profit? That's never happening. I'd be thrilled with a cap on medical and dental profits and that's not going to happen either.

@MidnightRider I'd start with a windfall profits tax and an increase in corporate taxes so that businesses would have an incentive not to hike prices to absurd levels. They might be inclined to share profits more with employees and reinvest in the company. Also, I am never giving up on the idea of Medicare For All.

@MidnightRider I'm not talking utopia here, I'm just talking about a world where we don't let profits matter more than people. This is going to require government regulation. That's the only way it happens.

@GlennS So common sense rules for capitalism. Such as, CEO cannot make more than 200% more than the workers as one example. None of that will ever happen, my company had lobbyists and so do all the other ones. They own our politicians, they know the game.

@MidnightRider We've had a government that wasn't afraid to regulate business before, but Reagan dismantled it. It won't be easy getting it back but it can happen

@GlennS The government never was in the business of protecting the citizens. Did they throw more bones back then? Everybody did. I remember an elevator operator with white gloves at the local store in our small city. Even commoners got to taste luxury. All of that has been squeezed out for more profits.
