@GeezerWench Which would directly result in the deaths of untold thousands of people. There's no uncertainty there, a lot of people will die if those public services are eliminated.
If enough of the general population subscribes to rational ethics, pledges like that will put them in a very dangerous spot... because as far as rational ethics is concerned, if five hundred had to die for ten thousand to live, that trade would be completely ethically justified (or perhaps even ethically required).

But they're not doing it to "save lives." It'll cost lives. They're doing it because those departments promote climate change and the Republicans don't believe in science and climate change.

I'm saying (at most) a few hundred Republican politicians are seeking to take an action that'll directly result in the deaths of many thousands of people.
Which, if a significant fraction of the population follows rational ethical systems, could put those politicians in a very dangerous spot.
