All of this is a balance and needs to communicated. It doesn’t have to be too late and you shouldn’t just expect to get more when you offer to do more work. Set the right expectations and have those hard to have discussions with the person that is your direct report. You’ll have a better time and you won’t have your time wasted if your employer is going to be a stingy fuck.
