I grew up believing in the hustle lifestyle. As in, while you sleep I work and I never lets myself be sick, and I’m always pushing harder. It led to some success, but they came at a cost. I don’t want my kids to grow up thinking it’s healthy to be this way, but I keep hearing these words come from their coaches. I know it’s motivational, but damn life is too short for that shit.

@Gambit_1 hustle isn't necessarily bad provided that you actually want to do so or truly enjoy it.

While I fully support education and schools, unfortunately the reality is that they serve 2 purposes now: teach only STEM or gladiatorial skills and to indoctrinate the children into wage slaves and consumers.

@Clintudy I tend to agree, but I always wonder if I love it because I was raised to love it. For much of my life there was definitely a like guilt when I took a break. If I didn’t have kids I might have never stopped.

And I agree about schools (also huge supporter of our teachers and schools). It’s just sad that society tells our kids that those are the only options.

@Gambit_1 for me, I have to force myself to take a day off from everything once a quarter to prevent burnout. The rest of the time, it's 2 FT jobs and grad school, plus the normal house stuff.
I have been working nearly continuously for over 30 years, and don't plan on stopping until I can no longer work.

@Clintudy yeah I can’t imagine not doing it. Practicing law is definitely a job with no breaks, but I think I’ve learned to find a middle ground. When I’m in trial is 20 hour days until it’s over, but the rest of the time I focus on making my family as important as my meetings.

And yeah, I’ll work until they put me out to pasture too. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s just the way I am.

@Gambit_1 it truly is all about the balance, though more so in older years. While young, the sacrifice of time can be made to build that foundation of experience. Plus the energy is there to be able to handle the situation.

@Clintudy I couldn’t agree more. It’s funny that you mention energy because that’s what I was thinking about today. As you get older, you have to be more selective about the things that matter because you just don’t have the same energy you did when you were a kid.
