I just re-read Rick Perlstein's great article "The Long Con." I hadn't remembered that the framing for it was Mitt Romney's lying. But I wrote extensively about the 2012 campaign at the time and I definitely remember that Romney lied more than any candidate I could remember. Yet most people today treat him like some platonic ideal of a statesman. He's horrible and the fact that Trump is even worse shouldn't blind us to this.

@FranklyCurious No matter how many squintillions of times we warn people that the enemy of their enemy is not necessarily their friend, the bias toward believing in binaries is powerful.

People keep thinking that because Romney, or Cheney or even Biden are opponents of Trump, that they must be on our side.

When they may just all be fighting over who gets to rule and rob us.

Do people not know how you get to lead a bandit kingdom?
