OMG I see @Foxthorn! It's been a while - so glad to see. you pop up.
@Helical_Code HI!!! Sorry for going silent. Work has been super hectic. Health has been meh. I'm having surgery on Friday for a 7mm kidney stone. I just haven't had much energy for other things. How are you????
@Helical_Code It took over a month to get surgery scheduled!! They have a staffing shortage at the hospital. It's been insane.
I finally got one of my calcs/reports nearly done (yes the same ones I've been banging on for a year now) and the contractor just realized last week that the wall is sitting on the connection for his fire hydrant so it has to move. I considered murder. I feel like I could get off on insanity at this point.
I have missed you and everyone here!
@Helical_Code My theory is this. They are given an opportunity to review our reports but they don't think we're that important so they don't. THEN the DOT says you can't build this until this report is done and approved and suddenly they remember that we're necessary even if they disagree.
I hope your deadline is before the holidays so you can relax without it hanging over your head??
@Foxthorn
Maybe the people not reviewing your report were just hoping that the regulations would be obliterated just in time. My father argued that he wanted DFG to win so that deregulation would advance. I never got the opportunity to ask him "So, should we just can the 10 CFR?"
But I digress. My deadline is a bit squishy, and there's no way the project will be done before the end of the year. It's a good project though, and I think it will get international recognition when complete.
@Helical_Code 😮 international recognition is exciting!
@Foxthorn
It's not like theState Department will be involved! Scientific publishing is international by default. I have the twin engines of recognition and critique dueling it out in my brain. 😉
@Helical_Code I won't lie, sometimes I use google scholar to look at the papers that are citing my work. Where are they published. What country do they originate from. I am also thankful that I am not in academia and I no longer have to publish.
@Foxthorn
As vanity searches go, those based on publication are well earned IMO! (but of course I would say that 😉 )
@Foxthorn
A month is a LONG time to wait with kidney stones! Here in Boston, where we have a pretty high concentration of hospitals, there are ALSO long wait times.
What IS it with people not checking the basic things first? Did they miss error analysis in college and also fail to just get a helping of good common sense?
