@Foxthorn Beautiful pics! Are those green tomatoes already??? Nice!
@GrandmaJ They are! so far I have tomato, spaghetti squash, beans, and beets coming on. No zuchinni yet but I'm monitoring closely :) Eggplants and peppers are still teeny tiny. I've never raised okra before so I'm having a hard time gauging their progress.
@GrandmaJ Fresh tomatoes are my favorite. I'm going to have a hard time saving some to can because I can eat several fresh tomatoes per day (that acidity is not great for my stomach, but YUM!!). I put in a couple of extra tomato plants this year so hopefully I have enough to eat and to can. Also, we are very fortunate to have a lot of sun in our back yard. I've spent most of my adult life living in apartments; The thing I missed the most was having a garden. Balcony container gardening is hard.
@GrandmaJ I grew up with large sprawling garden beds. I'm slowly adjusting to raised bed gardening, but it definitely takes some careful planning of what I want, when it needs to be planted, and how to lay out each bed. I'm still learning and each season is educational. Raised bed gardening reminds me of when my mom was into something called square foot gardening.
@Foxthorn I read about square foot gardening at one time, but never did it. We are both in our 70’s and won’t be at this location forever. Probably make a change in the next five years to something smaller and one level. In the meantime, I’ll use my driveway and a lot of pots. Happy gardening!
@Foxthorn We moved where we are 32 years ago from a place in the country where I had a huge, wonderful garden. Now we have mostly shade, not near enough space, and I just raise a few tomatoes to eat. I really miss our big garden, but at least we have locals who grow stuff I can buy. Not the same as growing it, though!
