In memory of Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders, who died today in a vintage airplane crash in Washington state.

Anders is credited by NASA as taking the first "Earthrise" photo while orbiting the Moon on Christmas Eve, 1968.

@WordsmithFL He was flying the plane, by himself, at age 90!? Most people shouldn't be driving a car at that age. Holy moly! There's got to be more to this story.

@FinnegansWhacked I have known pilots who flew in their 90s. They have to be licensed just like car drivers. If he was flying, he was qualified. Give me a 90-year old test pilot and astronaut any time.

@WordsmithFL That said, I would think common sense would require a co-pilot, just in case.
