Should parents be held accountable if their child commits a mass murder?

@jurban I think it depends on what kind of influence the parents had on the child. If we're talking mother of Kyle Rittenhouse level of influence-then fk yes-they should be held accountable. If we're talking-had no idea, had called authorities previously to report kid had issues-then no-I don't think they should pay-they tried to tell someone.

@FayreLylith
That would be an interesting policy:
- Document all events when a parent notified authorities about mental issues that could be a public threat.
- When a child commits a mass murder, check the list.
- If the child is convicted, automatically arrest the parent(s) that failed to notify the authorities

@jurban Rog...I understand the challenge-but you were the one asking in a poll...yes? That's my 1st shot, random thought on who could be considered accountable-outside of the actually person c committing the crime. If we're looking at outside influence-that's where I'm leaning...πŸ‘

Don't read me wrong - your post made me think more deeply about the issue.

I think almost all of these societal issues are nested-problems. We need to unpack them and only then start proposing solutions.

But, sometimes proposing half-baked solutions surfaces new dimensions of the underlying problem. That's progress!

@jurban I dunno...this one's ( the gun lobby) been around long enough that it should've been resolved. I don't doubt/question that for a second. The challenge there is the amount of $$$ that buys off representatives & keeps them quiet on issues that don't involve their own children.
